What is “New Shephard”?
It is built by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’s Space Company called Blue Origin.

Named after Mercury astronaut Alan Shephard, the first American to go to space, New Shephard is our reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line – the internationally recognized boundary of space. Whether you are an astronaut flying with Blue Origin or sending a payload to space, your 11-minute flight on New Shephard will be the experience of a lifetime.
In 2018, Blue Origin was one of the ten companies selected by NASA to conduct studies and advance technologies to collect process and use space-based resources for missions to the Moon and Mars.
About the design of new shephard:
Crew capsule: The New Shephard Crew Capsule is a pressurized crew capsule that can carry six people, and supports a “full-envelope” launch escape system that can separate the capsule from the booster rocket anywhere during the ascent.
Ring and wedge fins: It is used to reduce the fuel consumption on its flight back to earth.
Drag brakes: deploy from the ring fin to reduce the booster’s speed by half on its descent from space.
Engine: The Blue Engine-3 propels the rocket to space and restarts for a controlled pinpoint landing on the pad. The uniquely throttle able engine slows the booster down to just 8km/hr for landing. Others are Aft fins, landing gear.
